In 2016, Ben Dennis, Director of Aqua Buoys, successfully tendered to Bass Coast Shire Council for the lease of the historic Newhaven “Jetty Shed”, locally known as the Abalone Shed, which was originally constructed in 1983 for the local abalone industry.

Following the successful tender, Aqua Buoys managed the complete redevelopment of the site, including design, town planning, approvals and the full reconstruction of the original dilapidated building. The former Abalone Shed was transformed into what is now Saltwater Phillip Island, a waterfront restaurant and brewery that continues to be owned and operated by Aqua Buoys.

Aqua Buoys specialises in the construction, repair and refurbishment of marine infrastructure, including jetties, wharves and associated marine structures.

Our Director, Ben Dennis, has direct experience working on jetty rebuild projects, supported by more than 25 years of construction experience across marine, industrial and major infrastructure environments.

Our team has extensive capability in structural timber construction and replacement, decking and substructure works, concrete repairs, structural steel, rigging, demolition and difficult-access works.

This combination of marine construction experience and heavy industrial capability allows Aqua Buoys to undertake complex refurbishment projects involving existing structures, restricted access, heavy structural components and works over or adjacent to water.
